Many sports teams and clubs have team names and mascots. South Dundas United FC does not. How often do clubs pick a name? Not very often.
Some soccer clubs, like the Premier Leagues’ Liverpool FC have the nickname “The Reds,” and Vancouver FC in the Canadian Premier League are nicknamed “The Eagles.”
In other sports, many clubs (professional and amateur) have names or nicknames, like South Dundas Lions (minor hockey) or the Williamsburg Warriors (girls softball). Schools have names too like Seaway District High School being the Spartans, and Morrisburg Public School being “Home of the Bees.” We want to change this, and you get to help in a couple ways.
Step One – Thank you to all those who sent in entries. In all, we received 74 name suggestions and the steering committee selected the top-10 nicknames for step two.
Step Two – The names are narrowed down to 10, now it is your turn to do your park. Vote now to select the name you want as South Dundas United FC’s nickname.
Step Three – SDUFC adopts the new name, and the person who entered the name that was chosen will win a prize pack from the club.

South Dundas United FC’s new club nickname is the Mariners. The name was submitted by Hunter Jones.
“The name Mariners reflects the maritime history and the significance of the St. Lawrence Seaway to the area,” said Jones in his contest entry.
South Dundas United’s branding will now include South Dundas Mariners as part of its identity. For example, when SDUFC teams play other clubs, they will be known as the South Dundas Mariners.
